France: British and French boats clash in scallop skirmish

French and British fishing boats clashed in the English Channel on Tuesday, pelting stones and ramming each other's boats in the latest "scallop war" skirmish.
The incident occurred some 12 nautical miles off the coast of Normandy, near Baie de Seine. French crews are restricted by their country's scallop fishing season, which is between October 1 and May 15.
British boats can dredge for scallops in the waters year-round.
In Tuesday's incident, British vessels were outnumbered by some 40 French boats and were eventually chased from the Baie de Seine waters.
French fishermen reportedly accuse the British fishermen of reducing scallop stocks in what they believe to be their home waters.
